For my second installment of “Boat Porn”, I give you the brochure featuring the entire line of 1970 Tollycraft Yachts. This was the year that Jolly Mon was built, so this piece is near and dear to my heart.
1970 was the third full year that the PLiCOR hulls were produced, and the new 40 Tri-Cabin was unveiled, replacing the classic glass over wood 38 Tri-Cabin.
I have stacks and stacks of pieces waiting to be scanned, but for now check out the offerings from Tollycraft in 1970, and the accompanying 1970 price list, and feel free to save or print a copy if you’d like!
From 1974-1978 I was art director for the advertising agency that had the Tollycraft account. I designed at least two or three catalogs during that stint. We shot one of them on the Columbia River near the plant in Kelso. It’s funny that our advertising touted Tollycrafts as blue water boats, but Tolly would only let us shoot them in flat water!. Somewhere in storage I still have copies of those catalogs. I also had a cassette with radio spots and the jingle “Tollycraft, Tollycraft, take me away…” — Gary Shinn
Hi Gary,
Thanks for your comment. I always enjoy hearing from people that worked around these boats during their production. I’ve had a lot of fun collecting these items, and am happy to be able to share them.
Several years back I was able to get my hands on a stack of 8×10 black and white photos of my model boat that were advertising shots as well as an envelope full of color positives (slides) with several boats. I’d love to scan and print them.
I have a few pieces from the 70’s, but if you have the ability to scan, and are willing to, I’d love to see what you have and share it with others here!
I guess it’s all part of my addiction!
Calm seas,
Steve
Good stuff, I own a 1982 48′ TollyCraft and have just finished bringing her up to orignal condition. Her name is “Lusty LuLu”. I also own most of all the orignal Tolly engineering notes and improvements, year by year. Many, if not most of the advertising documents and photos of all models and production photos of every boat made. I am retiring soon and plan to offer those interested information they may want for a reasonable price. Have a great week.
